KDS for Indian kitchens

A kitchen display system your kitchen cannot ignore

A kitchen display system replaces paper KOTs with a screen that shows every open order, how long it has waited, and what is ready to go. EETS Partner turns any old Android phone or tablet into that screen, with alerts loud enough for a busy Indian kitchen. No special hardware, no extra module to buy on the Restaurant plan.

Why kitchens move from paper KOTs to a kitchen display screen

Paper tickets do their job until the rush. Then they curl, fall off the rail, get splashed with gravy or sit under a plate while a table waits. Nobody knows how long a ticket has been there, and the head cook has to read every slip to know what is still pending.

A kitchen display screen fixes the parts paper cannot. Every ticket stays on screen until it is done. The time is always visible. Late orders stand out on their own. And because the screen is connected to the counter, the cashier can see that a table's food is ready without walking into the kitchen to ask.

How the EETS KDS for restaurant kitchens works

Mount a phone or tablet near the pass and sign it in as a kitchen screen. Orders arrive from the counter, captains' phones and accepted QR orders. Each ticket shows the KOT number, the table or takeaway token, the time, the dishes, quantities and notes such as less sugar.

  1. A new ticket appears with a loud alert that repeats until someone looks.

  2. The cook taps it to move it from new to cooking.

  3. When the food is plated, the ticket moves to ready, and the counter and captain can see it.

  4. Once the food reaches the table, the ticket is marked served. If needed, it can be recalled.

Built for a loud kitchen

Most kitchen display software assumes a quiet room. Indian kitchens have exhaust fans, pressure cookers and a tandoor roaring next to the screen. We learned this in our own kitchen at THE NAAATI, so the EETS kitchen order display is built to be noticed.

  • Alarm-volume alerts

New tickets ring at alarm volume and keep repeating until someone acknowledges them.

  • Late tickets turn red

When a ticket has waited too long, it turns red, so the cook sees what to rush without reading every ticket.

  • Clear stages

Every ticket is new, cooking or ready. One look tells the whole kitchen what is pending.

  • Recall and mark served

Bring back a ticket that was cleared by mistake, and close it once the food has gone out.

What hardware a KDS in India really needs

Some KDS India setups are sold with dedicated kitchen screens and mounting kits. You do not need them for EETS. Any Android phone running Android 8.0 or later, or any Android tablet, can be the kitchen display. An older phone you have stopped using is fine, as long as it can stay on charge near the pass.

A tablet gives a bigger view of more tickets at once, which helps a busy main kitchen. A phone is enough for a small station like a juice counter or a dosa tawa. Each screen counts as one device on your plan.

You can also mix screens and paper. Keep a Bluetooth KOT printer at the tandoor, where the cook prefers a slip, and a screen at the pass for the head cook. EETS supports one printer per kitchen station alongside the kitchen display.

Keep the kitchen device on charge and mounted away from direct heat and water.

Kitchen display system and the rest of the restaurant

A KDS is most useful when it is connected to everything else. In EETS, the same order that appears on the kitchen screen also sits on the table's running bill at the counter, on the captain's phone, and on the guest's phone if they ordered by QR. Guests who ordered by QR can see their order move through accepted, cooking, ready and served.

If the internet drops, kitchen tickets keep flowing between devices inside the restaurant, because every KOT is saved on the device first and synced when the connection returns. QR orders from guests' phones need the internet to reach you.

Anything that goes wrong is traceable. Cancelled KOTs and removed items go into an anti-theft log that nobody can edit or delete, and risky actions need a manager's PIN.

Questions

Questions owners ask

What is a kitchen display system in a restaurant?

A kitchen display system, or KDS, is a screen in the kitchen that shows incoming orders instead of paper tickets. Cooks see each order, how long it has waited, and mark it as cooking or ready. In EETS, the KDS runs on any Android phone or tablet and stays connected to the counter, captain phones and QR orders.

Do I need special hardware for a KDS?

No. EETS turns any Android phone or tablet with Android 8.0 or later into a kitchen display. Many restaurants use an old phone or tablet they no longer need. There is no special screen or mounting kit to buy from us. Each kitchen screen counts as one device on your plan.

Is a KDS better than a KOT printer?

It depends on your kitchen. A KDS shows waiting time, flags late orders in red and cannot lose a ticket. A printer gives cooks a slip they can keep at their station. Many restaurants use both. EETS supports a kitchen display and one Bluetooth KOT printer per station at the same time.

Will the kitchen hear new orders over the noise?

That was our first design goal. New tickets ring at alarm volume and the alert repeats until someone looks at the screen. Late tickets also turn red. On staff phones, new QR orders and waiter calls ring even when the phone is locked.

Does the kitchen display work without internet?

Orders taken inside the restaurant keep reaching the kitchen screen during an outage. Every KOT is saved on the device first and synced to other devices when the connection is back. QR orders placed from guests' own phones need internet, because they come from outside your devices.

Which EETS plan includes the kitchen display?

The kitchen display is included in the Restaurant plan at ₹3,999 a year and in Restaurant Max at ₹4,999 a year. It is not part of the Café plan. Every plan starts with 6 months free on Restaurant Max, so you can test the kitchen screen first.

Can I use more than one kitchen screen?

Yes, as long as your plan has devices free. The Restaurant plan allows 6 devices in total and Restaurant Max allows 15. So a restaurant could run a counter tablet, two captain phones, a kitchen screen and a second screen at the bar within one plan.

Tonight's service could run itself.
